Carving in marble is one of the most beautiful and complex art works that exist in the world, due to big industries taking over, this job has been slowly disappearing.
In Ecuador, a country located in South America there is a small company named Pachamama that is dedicated to making handmade crafts, like this they preserve the art of working with this stone.
Around 50 Ecuadorian artisans work here, where they create little sea animal figures such as tortoises, sharks, stingrays, whales, etc., to be sold in national and international markets.
The process shaping, molding and coloring marble is overly complex, this job needs a lot of concentration and patience. First our artisans start by cutting big blocks of marble that weigh around 100 kilograms, followed by shaping and molding the stone with any figure you can imagine. Piece by piece each one of the figures is colored by hand and engraved, lastly, they give the product a special shine with a touch of polishing. Like this they can create authentic and excellent designs.
The time dedicated to making each of the figures depends on their size, they can go from 5 cm to 50 cm, they can also make them even bigger.
Ecuadorian handicrafts are admired worldwide, each piece of the crafts is made with unique high-quality materials. With this small handicraft, you can contribute to the art of working with marble and also help the artisans that work with Pachamama, as well you will have a little piece of the middle of the world with you in any part of the world.
